In-Person Education: Dietary and Food Service Manager Certification Course

August 23-27, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT

The Louisiana Nursing Home Association (LNHA) invites long-term care professionals interested in becoming certified as dietary and food service managers to attend this in-person five-day certification course on August 23-27, 2021, at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge, LA. Presenters will train attendees in various food operations, including food purchasing, preparation and menu management. The course will also review nutrition principles. The assigned clinical practicums will prepare each participant to document nutrition information, ensure food safety and manage work teams. Upon successful completion of the course, each participant will be qualified to become a Director of Food & Nutrition Services by standards and regulations enforced by the Louisiana Department of Health, Health Standards Section, and Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations; Part 483; Requirements for States and Long-Term Care Facilities. Be sure to take this course to be in compliance! The course instructors will be Leigh Anne Burns, RDN, LDN, John Hickson, CCA, CDM/CFPP, and Jeff DeMars, LNFA. The deadline to register is August 16, 2021.

In-Person Education: Resident Activity Director Certification Workshop

October 12-15, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT

The Louisiana Nursing Home Association invites those who desire to become a certified activity director to attend a four-day in-person seminar on October 12-15, 2021, at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. The certification course, presented by Jeff DeMars, LNFA, ADC-EDU, ACC-BC, CDCS, CDBS, will teach attendees how to identify the activity needs of each resident and will share creative techniques and strategies to implement when planning, developing and delivering quality life-enriching activities for residents in a nursing facility. During the seminar, attendees will complete an onsite clinical practicum at a licensed nursing facility. Upon completion of this certification course, attendees will be certified to work as an activity director in Louisiana nursing facilities. Taking this class every two years as a “refresher” is suggested due to ever-changing policies and procedures.
