Legislative Affairs

LNHA offers a respected legislative voice to support nursing facilities, the long term care profession and the residents we serve.

Education and Networking

LNHA offers seminars throughout the year at various locations statewide, providing continuing education for various disciplines working in the long term care profession. In addition to the numerous educational offerings throughout the year, the LNHA Convention & Trade Show and the Spring Conference offer outstanding educational opportunities for owners, administrators, and management company personnel, as well as nurses, activity directors, social workers and dietary managers. Members receive discounts for all LNHA-sponsored seminars and conventions. For a listing of the classes offered, visit our events webpage at www.lnha.org/events.

Strategic Communications

LNHA monitors our constantly evolving profession and keeps its more than 250 member facilities informed through:

  • Executive Director’s Memo: a weekly message from the executive director providing insight and perspective on the profession’s most current issues
  • Lagniappe: a monthly newsletter keeps members abreast of regulatory activity as well as insightful stories and new developments in long term care
  • LNHA’s Membership Directory: provides easy access to colleagues and vendors and provides contact information for state agency personnel and legislators
  • Email updates: For pressing issues, LNHA delivers critical information electronically to its member facilities so they can be informed and up-to-date

Regulatory Interpretations

Louisiana’s nursing facilities are highly regulated by local, state and federal agencies. Medicare and Medicaid regulations are continually evolving and changing. LNHA employs a legal and policy director to keep members well-informed and well-equipped to deal with the burdens of such heavy regulation.

Understanding the Profession

An integral part of LNHA is fostering an understanding of long term care with the public through special programs, media relations and advertising campaigns. LNHA employs a full-time communications director to facilitate the flow of information to the media and the membership and to assist members with their public relations activities.

Group Purchasing and Other Programs

LNHA members have the option to receive professional and general liability coverage through the LNHA Liability Trust, and workers’ compensation insurance coverage through the Louisiana Health Care Self-Insurance Fund for Workers’ Compensation. Members also enjoy discounts and buying power on quality goods and services from top vendors through the LNHA Service Corporation. LNHA is constantly searching for and improving the services offered to members.

National Affiliate Membership

Facility members automatically become a member of the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (ACHA/NCAL) with all the benefits which include access to the AHCA/NCAL resources. (AHCA/NCAL serves as the national voice of the long term care profession.) These resources include training materials, regulatory updates and web-based tools that allow facilities to benchmark person metrics to those of their peers.
